Young - Australia's cherry capital
Young, only 12 minutes drive from Werrington, is centrally located with a great mix of homewares, boutique shops and eateries to explore.
Surrounded by orchards, vineyards and olive groves, Young is an historic gold rush town famous for its delicious cherries. Nestled in the cool climate Hilltops wine region, you’ll discover gold rush history, fun festivals and outdoor adventure in this abundant region.
You’ll also find many other orchards to explore, spilling with fruits such as plums and apricots. Savour some local jams at Poppa’s Jam and Fudge Factory, Ballinaclash Orchard and Cellar Door and Valley Fresh Cherries. The events calendar is full of festivals and markets.

Young Visitor Information Centre
The Young Visitor Information Centre is located in the historic former Young Railway Station on Lovell Street. By taking the time to call into the centre, visitors can maximise the time that they have to spend in the area by receiving the latest information as well as local knowledge and advice.
A great range of souvenirs and local products such as jams, olive oil, goat soap, wines and more are available to purchase.Also located within the Visitor Centre you'll find the Burrangong Art Gallery and the Hilltops Region Cellar Door. The Young Visitor Information Centre is also a booking agency for all your New South Wales Rail Travel.
Murrumbateman
Surrounded by rolling vineyards, Murrumbateman is at the heart of the Canberra district wine country. Home to 20 boutique wineries, this former gold mining village will thrill the senses with cellar doors, vineyard restaurants and overflowing market flavours.
Settle in and visit iconic Murrumbateman wineries such as Clonakilla and Helm Wines, where you can taste internationally acclaimed cool-climate wines. Sweet tooths should head straight for Robyn Rowe Chocolates. Murrumbateman’s events calendar is fittingly delicious. Sample gourmet delights and local wine at the Murrumbateman Village Market. The Wine, Women and Song festival is in May. Meet award-winning winemakers and enjoy a wonderful range of tasting experiences and vineyard tours.
Grove Estate Wine Tasting
Enjoy magnificent views over the vineyard while tasting the range at award-winning Grove Estate Wines. They have quietly built an international following for their wines, which include both traditional reds and whites and some interesting Italian varietals. 15 minutes away.
Boorowa Picnic Races
A day of country racing at its best at Boorowa Amateur Picnic Race Club. A long standing tradition that strives to maintain the family orientated atmosphere of the day. May each year.

The Sir George Hotel, Jugiong
A restored historic venue where old meets new with accommodation, restaurant, boutique bar and artisan bakery. A philosophy of simplicity and authenticity underpins all that is The Sir George – from the menu of locally sourced Riverina produce to the beer garden that feels like your own. It is a 45 minute drive.
Fruit Picking
The fertile soils of the Young region burst with cherries every year, and you can enjoy cherry-picking season from October to January. A fun way to celebrate this delight is the National Cherry Festival in December, which includes a parade and pie-eating contest.
Ballinaclash Orchard and Cellar Door offer fruit picking. Pick-your-own cherries, apricots and plums from a beautiful countryside orchid. Picking is available from November through to Christmas (weather dependent). You can also bring a picnic and enjoy it amongst the orchard.
Running of the Sheep
As part of the Boorowa Irish Woolfest, the main street is closed off for the main event for the running of the sheep and other festivities. The sheep are raced down the street by trusty kelpies and guided by Farmer Ashley on his four wheel motorbike. This is an opportunity to see Boorowa’s fine Merino sheep up close and personal. Other festivities include the markets and art show. Running of the Sheep occurs early October every year.

Burrangong Picnic Races
The races take place in Young, October each year. Consists of a six race program, highlighted by the Burrangong Picnic Cup over 1400m. A great day out in glorious spring time.

Jam Factory in Young
A family run store selling locally and freshly made fudges, jams and chutneys that are all made in store from fresh product.
Long Track Pantry, Jugiong
A thriving produce store and cafe loved by locals and travelers alike. Serving home-style breakfast and lunch from Wednesday to Monday, the warm and welcoming eatery is the embodiment of Hilltops dining. Enjoy a delicious range of sandwiches and salads, smooth coffee and a tantalising display of locally produced jams, chutneys, oils and sauces. Located next to The Sir George Hotel.
